The late Gwen Shamblin Lara‘s legacy as a weight loss program guru and church chief is about to be explored in a brand new documentary venture.
On Thursday, Sept. 23, HBO Max debuted the trailer for the five-part docuseries The Manner Down: God, Greed and the Cult of Gwen Shamblin. The footage featured interviews with individuals about Gwen’s Christian weight loss program plan, The Weigh Down Workshop, together with the Tennessee-based Remnant Fellowship Church, which she later based.
HBO Max’s description of the sequence said partly, “Regardless of a rigorously curated picture, Lara and the church quickly fielded accusations of emotional, psychological and bodily abuse, and exploitation for his or her alleged cult-like practices.”
The trailer included a beforehand filmed clip of Gwen saying, “God revealed to me that the important thing to everlasting weight management is a matter of the guts.”
Among the many people featured within the trailer is one man who instructed the digicam, “You taught your youngsters about medicine and alcohol, however you by no means suppose to educate your youngsters on a cult.”
